New Poem

April 20, 2011

I do, on occasion, write poetry.  It occurred to me today that I might share this poetry on my blog.  My poetry tends to come from a dark place within me.  I’d like to be able to write happier poems someday, but for me, poetry is most affecting when it is in the form of a lament.  Here’s a poem I wrote recently:

A Black Hole For Words

I am a black hole for words.

Like the wind through a hollow reed, plucked down to its last stand.

I had words for you.

I had words for you!

And what became of all my toil?

Nothing but floppy-petaled poppies swaying darkly.

A divine awkwardness permeates my life.
